Well I didn't get great news today, I checked the balance on the wheels and they were ok, but they said my right front is out of round. Hmm. So that means the rim could be fucked, no idea how that happened, its been fine, the original problem was a vibration from the right rear that we hoped was a tire issue... doesn't seem to be the case. The broken mustache bar incident (note to self, if you ever open a bar it will be called the Broken Mustache Bar) must have injured something, my money is on a U joint. That means I have to carefully drive it to my friend's shop 30 miles away and get it on the lift at some point. My neighbors hate me because I don't move my cars enough, yes I have four cars, not the point, they are evil and condo associations should all die. So I rotate some to the street, I have one assigned covered space, anyhoo. In preparation for possible full wheel meltdown news, I have decided to see what I might replace them with. I just got tires in July so I have to get some 15x7 or close to 7. The car is orange, to take that into consideration aesthetically. Everyone gets Watanabes so the Enkei is a little different. I wanted some 432 Z replicas but I just can't find any and would probably cost a fortune anyway. Any other suggestions that have that size 4x100 15x7ish.
I see Sparf was looking too:

Rota Grid Classic: My wife would hate this but its sexy.
These came on the rare DOHC 432/R Zs in Japan.

You mean 4x114, not 4x100

You won't go wrong with Panasports, but if you can find stock Datsun Z wheels and put them on the street you will be doing the world a favor.

I have the dealer option original rims on it but we'll see if its ok. Panasports are pretty common, basically Watanabes.

Possibly, its a weird thing. The slotted aluminum wheels were a dealer option for Datsuns in the USA. BUT, I have met a few other people with all original cars as they came from the dealer and the rims are sometimes slightly different, slots are narrower etc.. So its possible and I can look. I am no expert on wheel repair, not sure if that can be fixed, and if so, safe. Also you are ruining my excuse to my wife to get sexy wheels. Safety, its unsafe dear.

I am a huge fan of them. They pop baby. My wife hates them but doesn't mind the Enkei. Not sure what to do...

I had a driveshaft U-joint fail catastrophically 60 miles from anything along highway 1. I just drove it home, and by the time I got back the two yolks holding the joint were hitting each other. Ended up replacing the driveshaft.
But: you should be able to check all the u-joints while its on the ground going by feel. There should be NO play in them. Shake the driveshaft HARD on each end, shake the halfshafts HARD on each end, and you'll probably find a bad one. If you need one for your driveshaft, hit me up, I still have a pair from when I thought they'd be repairable.
As for wheels, the reason everyone goes for the old watanabe-lookalikes is because they look perfect. Though I've been thinking I'm gonna get racing steelies whenever I get new wheels.

Yeah I should try that. My friend has a shop and they specialize in zs, they work on anything but they have parts cars and collect as much as they can. They even have a Scarab. They are going to do some stuff anyway and it has to be done on the lift so I better give it to them. I saw the steel wheels too, i thought about black ones. I really want those bronze wheels now haha. They are just interesting. I might have to get the Enkei, I'm working on my wife, I really didn't need another car but she's been cool about it. I told her I would never sell it and I will work on it over time. I have a diesel mercedes and I'm right in the middle of something so I have time to decide. I have to see what's really going on first.

You've got a tough decision, cause honestly any of them will look awesome. If I were you I'd just take those options and get the lightest/dollar you can of the bunch and call it good. Since form is guaranteed, just roll with function.

I can't decide, but based on what info I've found the Rota are 2-3lbs lighter. The Rota site has nothing and I've just seen what the tuners post. I see the Enkei is around 16.
